BIM, IWS and RNLI Join Forces to Encourage More Fishermen to Wear LIfejackets

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency, Irish Water Safety (IWS), the statutory body established to promote water safety and the RNLI are continuing their campaign to encourage more fishermen to wear their lifejackets at sea with a targeted media campaign.

Yawl Bay Seafoods Ltd, a family run seafood company based in Youghal, Co. Cork launched their new range of crab products In November. Due to the innovative vacuum packaging developed with assistance from BIM, the distinctively delicate, sweet taste of Yawl Bay Seafood’s cooked crab is as good after a fortnight as it is on the day it’s landed, and the product has already received rave reviews from professional chefs and home cooks alike.

BIM Congratulate Eurotoques 2011 Young Chef of the Year

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency wish to congratulate the 21st Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year, Kamil Dubanik (23) from Knockranny House Hotel in Co. Mayo. This is an exceptional win for Knockranny House Hotel as last year’s winner also came from the hotel. Kamil Dubanik was crowned the winner on Monday 28th November at a gourmet tasting lunch prepared by the competition finalists in The Merrion Hotel, Dublin.

The well known fishmonger establishment, Kay O'Connell's, run by brothers Pat and Paul recently opened a new smokehouse in Bandon, Co. Cork. BIM's Seafood Development Centre (SDC) based in Clonakilty assisted the brothers to set up up the new venture.

Organic Fish Farm to be a major boost for Ireland’s Seafood Industry

BIM will be applying for an Aquaculture Foreshore licence by the end of January 2012 with the intention of developing a deep sea fish farming production area in the lee of Inis Oirr.  The deep sea licence application, if successful, will allow for 15,000 tonnes of organic grade farmed salmon to be produced per annum.  This will double the current production of Irish farmed salmon and meet the urgent demand for this premium product.
